Field of expertise of the proposal:

•    Trace metals
•    Chemical oceanography
•    Oceanographic sampling campaigns

•    Reactive isotopes in the ocean
•    Speciation of trace metals in the ocean
•    Bio-geochemical cycles of metals in the ocean

Objectives:

The general objective of the course is to give students, specialized knowledge in the study of heavy metals in the ocean.  The course will be imparted by an outstanding team of professor of renowned prestige in the field of trace metals in the ocean, within the framework of GEOTRACES international program.

Particular objectives of the course are:

  • Gaining knowledge and experience on oceanographic sampling campaigns for collection of samples for the analysis of trace metals.
  • Students should be capable to properly select and conduct analytical strategies for the study of trace metals in marine samples.
  • Gaining knowledge on bio-geochemical cycles of metals in the ocean and their speciation.
  • Data management to analyse the role of trace metals in the ocean
